How are we doing this?

Our chatbot uses a weather api to fetch the 7-day forecast and will translate the information to the farmers. The farmer will be able to communicate with the chatbot with whatever language he is comfortable with since we will have language translation. Our chatbot will even include information on how to yield better output, modern farming methods and helpline for various emergencies.

Why agriculture?

Apart from being just an industry, agriculture is the main source of income for about 70 crore farmers in India. A total of 3,32,603 farmers (2,84,008 males and 48,595 females) committed suicide between 1995 and 2018.

What are the reasons behind these suicides? According to the ADSI-2015 report, around 19 per cent of farmers committed suicide due to crop failure due to natural calamities. So are we helpless? Can’t we offer any help to these farmers? An article from a US based website states that A seven-day forecast can accurately predict the weather about 80 percent of the time and a five-day forecast can accurately predict the weather approximately 90 percent of the time.
